Project: Essay
I am interested in the music industry because there are so many opportunities to make a career in it. It’s a growing industry for employment. For example, there are careers that can be made in TV. The theatre is another area in which young people can find careers in the music industry; of course, the recording industry is another area, not to mention the possibilities for online jobs providing downloads or even working in retail for HMV; there’s also work in what might be less obvious areas of the music industry, for example you can be a lighting assistant, choreographer, sound desk technician, CD and poster designer, website designer etc.
I have begun a new topic called ‘Project’.
For ‘Project’, I am going to be researching and gathering information based on m question: ‘What are the skills, qualifications and experience needed for a successful career in songwriting and being a videographer?’ I am interested in finding out this information as I want to find out more about these jobs in the music industry to help me plan my own career as it may benefit me. I also wanted to improve my knowledge of the different jobs available in the music industry by researching u chosen careers.
My objectives are:
· To gather all my research into one place
· You wanted to plan the next step in your education
· You have out together a career development plan to guide you in your chosen career
As part of my research I have looked at and researched jobs within the music industry and the media industry and found a variety of jobs. Having found these I chose two as to which I was going to focus on.
An important part of working on my Project is improving my research skills. I wanted to know how to (Library, Internet, carry out a survey, interview people, speak to people who work in the music industry; I feel that these skills will enable me to find work whether I end up working in the music industry or not.
To help me answer this question I will produce a survey and carry out lots of research to see what others think is needed, this is so I get others opinions.
The resources I am going to be using are; books, internet and people. With people I am going to hold out a number of interviews.
Researching these jobs has also improved my researching skills and opened my eyes, to the different jobs in the industry.

Creating a Record
This was developed as an upgrade to two of his other inventions, the telegraph and telephone. In 1877, Edison was working on a machine that would transcribe telegraphic messages thorugh indentations on paper tape. This was later invented and called the phonograph.
He later invented tyhe improved phonograph then came the perfected phonograph and it was produced by May of 1888.
Home Phonograph:
Dated at May 31st 1898. It was one of the first phonographs for home use. It is also known as the 'Suitcase'. It is called this because of its four suitcase style clamps, enabling the phonograph to be carried by its lid handle.
Gramophone: The Emil Berliner Gramophone 1895.
The first device for recording and replaying sound. In the 1890's Edison found that you can fit 52 discs in 8 cylinders, they are still being bought today. They are bought and used mainly by young adults, as well as DJ's.
Shellac Record Player:
Begain in 1898 and continued until the late 1950's. 'Unbreakable' records, usually of celluloid on a pasteboard base. Could not be bent, broken or damaged.
Modern Record player:
Open Reel Tape Recorder: Studer A80 Analogue 2 Track Recorder.
Form of magnetic tape which is held on a reel. The tape is mounted on a spindle. Was also used in early tape drives for data storage on mainframe computers.
Multitrack recorder: Struder 287 24 track 2.
A device that lets you record sounds on different tracks at different times and lets you play them all back together. With a multi track recorder you don't need a computer. Most bands use multitrack recorders.
Audio Cassette:
A magnetic tape sound recording format. It was invented in 1962 by Phillips company. By this time the quality wasn't that good until the 1970's.
Digital Audio Tape (DAT):
It is a signal recording and playback medium developed by Sony and introuduced in 1987. It is similar to a compact audio cassette. By the name you can tell the recording is digital rather than analog.

Campaign diary
After researching 3 different campaigns and evaluating them, I moved onto posters. I saw what attracted people and what the target audience should be. Putting all these ideas together, I began to think about what I could do my campaign on.
The first campaign I research was for bullying. Bullying happens everywhere and at any time. I thought doing a campaign for bullying would be a bit effective as I could talk from experience of seeing people being bullied and how I saw it be solved. Having knowledge of things helps when making a point at your points are mostly different from the ones being spoken.
My second idea was an anti-smoking campaign. This campaign is much known and I wanted to do something completely different to what is already known, so I skipped this one and went to my third campaign.
My third campaign idea was for Music. I thought this one would have been easy, as I do a music based subject and I take interest in music. I couldn’t think of many ideas, which frustrated me, so I went onto something that I thought anyone could do even if they have never done it before.
My fourth and final idea was Dance. Dance is interesting, the movements and sounds made when dancing. I have had a personal experience in the family with cancer, so I like to help a lot when it comes to it. Putting two and two together, I came up with the idea to put cancer and dancing together and make it one campaign. I did research and made posters for my folder and thought of a few titles, 'Dance for Cancer', 'Dance Away Cancer' and 'Dance Cancer Away'.
I haven't yet chosen my final title I am gong to do a tally chart. Until then I am going to record what I will need and what my campaign will be about and how I am going to make it work.
Name of campaign | What it will be about | What resources I will need |
Bullying | -What is bullying? (the different types) -How is it interpreted? -Target audience | Books and internet |
Anti-smoking | -The effects of smoking
